Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman, was the third child of the family. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father died and made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to be cleaner or waitress to help them be able to survive. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. She left the school in the span of two years of school to pursue an acting career. Her journey was not without obstacles. the path she chose to pursue. When she was in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime however, no theatre job opportunities came up. As a hat check girl in a nightclub, she quit her job and moved back to Boston. It was there that she earned a living in the ushering industry during the during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. Drama studies led her to earn her degree at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
